Plymouth State University
Underground Distribution Project
Scope of project:
Richardson Electrical performed a complete campus wide conversion of the existing high voltage overhead distribution system to an underground system with high-votlage switching equipment. The new underground distribution system was run adjacent to existing utilities. Switching equipment was installed to provide improved sectionalizing abilities to disconnect existing buildings for maintenance as needed and connected to the existing campus underground distribution system for improved reliability. All existing building services, as well as additional and new buildings, were reconnected.
Key project details:
Project was done on an accelerated schedule to be complete during a single summer prior to students return. Switching equipment installed allows the University the ability to segregate any individual building on their system from the local utility for maintenance and increased reliability. The work supported the future expansion plans of the University as well as fully integrated the available power produced by the University’s cogeneration plant.
